For spiritual, intellectual, relational, emotional and physical wellness.
Five of the writing prompts are related to prayer. They remind us to include all the aspects of prayer contained in the scriptures:
-
Praise: It’s the very reason we were given life.
-
Confession: God already knows the truth. He says it’s good for you to humbly acknowledge your sins, struggles and weaknesses so the clay of your heart is softened enough, so He can set you free.
-
Intercession: Who in my life or outside it, at present, needs God’s grace, mercy and direction most? Take the time to be other’s centered in your petitions.
-
Casted Care: God has the power to change the things we cannot change. Unburden your load this day at His merciful throne and watch what happens.
- Thanksgiving: Expressing one’s gratitude to the only Source of all that is good will open your eyes to how you have been baptized in blessings. Gratitude fuels us to look for beautiful, selfless ways to express our thankfulness by pouring ourselves out in service to God and all the souls around us He loves.
Four writing prompts help track intellectual growth and the happy little light bulb moments you have, not only during your scripture readings, but perhaps helpful podcasts you listen to during exercise, driving, or other tasks.
These prompts include: “I Learned”, “Memorable Quote”, “Bright Ideas”, “Practical Discovery”. I use “I Learned” to recall the deepest thing I discovered, and the “Practical Discovery” to remember little things such as a product, a helpful hint, or a useful self-observation.
There are two journaling prompts that are reminders to stay connected and engaged in our relationships. They are “Best Conversation” and “Who Did I Help?”
Three prompts encourage us to look for our blessings every waking moment. They train our brains to be optimistic and joyful. These prompts are “Brightest Moment” , “Simple Pleasure” “Affirmation” and “I Am Looking Forward To”. For the Affirmation, I simply copy the positive thought of the day from the “395 reasons to rejoice” in the back of the journal, but you may opt to use your own creativity here.
One of the best sources of endorphins is seeing the fruit of our labors, so the final two prompts are related to Productivity. They are ““Tasks” and Accomplishments”. Since I journal in the morning, I usually fill in the Accomplishments prompt the next day, and guiltlessly transfer the tasks from the day before as needed. I’m sure you’ve noticed how sometimes we accomplish unexpected things that were much more meaningful than the less important planned tasks that had to take a backseat to make room.
“Calorie Burn”: Sweat is often the last little thing we need to flip the switches in our brain chemistry to turn a dark corner and back into the brighter sunshine mentally and emotionally. What are your five favorite ways to sweat? Pick one and go without thinking too much about it. You could also track other data here, for example consumed ounces of water or calorie or carb counts here if desired, as well.
